Winemaker comments by Penfolds Rewards of Patience Edition VI

The 1963 Penfolds Grange is deep brick red in colour. The nose has intense perfumed meaty/demi-glace/rose-petal/apricot/camomile aromas. The palate is rich chocolaty/meaty/apricot/demi-glace fruit underlying wood-spiced notes and sweet, ripe, velvety tannins. A chalky firm but elongated flavourful finish. This is a perfectly composed, beautifully structured Grange. A very great wine. Grapes were sourced from vineyards located in the Barossa Valley, Kalimna Vineyard, Morphett Vale, Magill Estate and Modbury Vineyard. The growing season and vintage were both warm and dry, it was an excellent season. This Grange is made from 100% Shiraz and was matured in new American oak for 18 months.
