Description

The 1972 Penfolds Grange is a blend of 90 per cent Shiraz and 10 percent Cabernet Sauvignon. The 1972 Penfolds Grange won a gold and four other medals at Australian wine shows in 1973, 1976 and 1977.  This vintage was an outstanding vintage for Penfolds Grange but some bottles were unintentionally oxidised during bottling.
Fruit for the 1972 Penfolds Grange was sourced from a number of vineyards across a number of regions including, Barossa Valley, Kalimna Vineyard, Magill Estate, Modbury Vineyard and Coonawarra.  Vintage conditions were a dry growing season followed by mild weather at vintage.  The 1972 Penfolds Grange was matured in new American oak hogsheads for 18 months.  Drink with a mature cheddar cheese.
Rewards of Patience – sixth Edition – Medium deep brick, lovely cedar, sweet fruit, hazelnut, polished leather aromas and flavours with some plum, walnut notes.  The palate is still fresh and elegant with plenty of fruit sweetness and fine lacy tannins.
