Description

The 1981 Penfolds Grange was a big and tannic wine, in 1990 Robert Parker Jnr awarded this wine 97Pts.

During the Rewards of Patience – sixth edition – the 1981 Penfolds Grange was described as deep brick red in colour. Earthy/cedar/meaty/demi glace aromas with some farmyard characters. The palate is generous and powerful with plenty of chocolate/meaty/cedar flavours and fine loose knit chalky tannins. A firmly structured Penfolds Grange, probably best to drink sooner rather than laster.

The 1981 Penfolds Grange is made from a blend of shiraz (89%) and cabernet sauvignon (11%) with the fruit sourced from The Kalimna Vineyard, other vineyards located in the Barossa Valley, Magill Estate, Clare Valley, Modbury (Adelaide Plains) & Coonawarra wine region.
