Description

1990 Penfolds Grange Bin 95 shiraz. This is the “Penfolds Grange”, rated 97Pts Jeremy Oliver – one of the best wines made by Penfolds, an ‘A’ grade Penfolds Grange with a tremendous cellaring future.

The 1990 Penfolds Grange was the first vintage where the label changed from Grange Hermitage to Grange. The wine has been known around the world as Grange for many years.

The 1990 Penfolds Grange is one of the best yet, with the potential to eventually rival the classic vintages of 1955, 1962 and 1971. Sourced from premium vineyards in South Australia, the 1990 Penfolds Grange is predominantly Shiraz (Hermitage) with a small percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon. With its solid structure and strength of character it will age gracefully and should be carefully cellared for a bare minimum of 10 years, and preferably 25 to 30.

The 1990 Penfolds Grange is deep crimson in colour. It is a powerful and beautifully balanced wine with chocolate/plum/blackberry/spicy aromas. It is a ripe, rich and extremely concentrated wine with sweet blackberry/dark cherry fruits/plum/mocha and some earthy flavours with smooth velvet like tannins. The 1990 Penfolds Grange is made from shiraz 95% and cabernet sauvignon 5%. Fruit to make the 1990 Penfolds Grange was sourced from the Barossa Valley including the Kalimna Vineyard, Coonawarra and Clare Valley Wine Regions. The 1990 vintage was spectacular with a perfect warm, dry growing season and harvest.
