2017 Tyrrell’s Vat 9 Shiraz. Fruit for this wine was hand picked from predominately two vineyards, The Weinkeller and Short Flat and other premium vineyards located on the Ashman’s property in the Hunter Valley. The soils in these vineyards are heavy, red volcanic clay over limestone.
This wine is purple in colour, it has a fresh nose of berries and violets with a subtle oak lift. The palate is medium weight with the immediate fruit sweetness being the core of the palate structure. The oak fills out the mid palate which is extended with a fine, clean acid structure. A creamy, soft textured wine which is a great example of modern Hunter shiraz.
The 2009 Tyrrell’s Vat 9 shiraz was matured in new (60%) and one year old (40%) French oak casks (2800L) for 15 months. 13% alc/vol.
