Tyrrell’s NVC Shiraz is another single vineyard release, from this epic winery. Planted in 1921, the fruit from this vineyard once went into Tyrrell’s Vat 5. After a long drought beginning in the late 1990’s and dragging along until the early 2000’s, Tyrrell’s decided the vineyard needed more work. As a result The Vat 5 was retired and is no longer made. Ten years of vineyard management (soils and vines) Tyrrell’s now release the NVC Shiraz.
Fruit is handpicked and sorted in the vineyard before fermentation takes place in open-top vats with 10% whole bunches. After fermentation, the wine is matured for 14 months in a single new 2,500-litre Rousseau cask.
The NVC vineyard shows rich, darker characters and a beautiful balance between clean savoury spice and dark fruit flavours. Soft tannins, French oak and bright acidity add to the wine’s complexity, resulting in a long, seamless palate.
