Description

2015 Hillcrest Village Chardonnay.  Hillcrest Vineyard is located in Woori Yallock, the Upper Yarra Valley, about 30 mins from Ringwood or to some, about 30 minutes from Costco.  Hillcrest Vineyard make tiny amounts for Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Cabernet Merlot or sometimes Cabernet Sauvignon and a Merlot.  Their wines are pretty friggin awesome, they have an ability to age for a very long time.

The 2015 Hillcrest Village Chardonnay was quite approachable when tasted at their open day, late April 2017, it was light on its feet, soft and nicely balanced, medium’ish (perhaps a bit less) bodied and possessing all the characteristics you’d hope to find in a high class Yarra Valley Chardonnay, nectarine stone fruity/citrus/lemony/creaminess type of wine, you know, that old chestnut.  It really did catch my eye as I thought it was probably to most approachable village chardonnay made at Hillcrest Vineyards for some time, but I’d been tasting a few wines prior to this and I wasn’t driving, so I could be wrong! AND i am not sure how long the bottle had been opened for.  I think this will be drinking at its peak around 2019 to 2023 but gee-whiz it is in such a great place now, why would you bother waiting?
